Only a few people around the world are familiar with leeks. And there are fewer people who know how to cook it. A lot of people may only know that it is commonly used in soups. However, there are many ways to cook leeks.
Leeks can be eaten raw. Due to its mild and sweet onion-like flavor it can be used in salads. All you need to do is slice the leeks finely and then mix it with other vegetables. Then you can add vinaigrette.
Leeks can also be grilled. The process of grilling it is the same with asparagus. The first thing that you need to do is clean it and prepare it for cooking. Coat it with olive oil and sprinkle it with salt and pepper to add flavor. One way to know if it is already cooked is by looking at the color. If the color turns brown, then you'll know that it is cooked. Since you are grilling, to cook it evenly, make sure to turn it every now and then.
It may surprise you to know that leeks can also be baked. There are only a few simple steps to follow to do this. After cleaning the leeks, cut it in half. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease the pan using virgin olive oil. Then sprinkle pepper, nuts and salt on the leeks and bake it for 25 minutes.
Leeks can also be braised and sautéed. Braised leeks can be a great side dish for grilled meat and steaks. Leeks can be sautéed just like any other vegetable. You can choose any sauce that you like such as butter and stir-fry the leek on it.
